HOCKEY
A good fast exhibition of hockey was witnessed on Oa«s Square yesterday when tile newly formed Rover Club were narrowly defeated by. the- -Hok’{ika Club bv 2 goals to 1. - ■'X'he KOvt r Club fielded several new players, in. spite of this only two goals were scored against them. A third goal was netted just after tl'.v time whistle had gone. ■Scorers for Hokitika were Al. Hughes and E. Collett and for Rovers, O’, fitapleton. The latter had hard luck with two other shots that narrowly missed the goal. M. Ward (Rover) had to retire at; half-time owing to an injury. Hokitika played wiMi better i combination than the Rovt*r team, who should combine better' after a eorip'e I of matches. Rev. Hailwood and Mr S. Fleming were referees.
