ATTEMPTED FRAUD
DOUBTFUL SOOT-CLEANER.
SALESMAN SENTENCED.
PALMERSTON N„ April 28
Charged with attempting to obtain the sum of £2- from L. M. Armstrong by falsely representing, that a certain; chimney cleaner was specially prepared for that purpose, David Weston Mclntosh" appeared in the Police Court this morning. Senior-Detective Quirke said the Hocused had been going around the district selling ! small zinc plates which he .-alleged possessed certain .qualities which would 1 remove' soot from chimneys when the plates were burned in a fire. The plates had been sold at Is 6d each,, while their actual value was about 3d. 1 Accused - was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labour.
