INVITED TO AUSTRALIA?

NEW YORK, April. 29.

Aboard the steamship, Aquitania, Mrs Helen Wills-Moody, who is en route to England to play in the Wightman Oup matches, made a statement to the representative of the Australian press. She said: “I would enjoy tremendously playing in-Australia, and only wish I could 1 give a definite answer now to the Tennis Association. My present plans are uncertain. However, I hope to visit your country in the near future. I have played with Australian players in England, France and the United States. Now I would like to meet them in their own country. They are fine sportsmen, I know. A visit to Australia would be very enjoyable, both from a tennis and -sightseeing point of view. The best mixed doubles player in tennis is Jack Hawkes, and I would like to see once again his remarkable service, winning points outright. When We played mixed doubles together, I was always Certain we Would wth the gatne that he served, "'The presence in the United States of your team has aroused great interest. Tennis (enthusiasts are watching their excellent play with enthusiasm.

DAVIS CUP MATCHES. WASHINGTON, April 29. In the Davis Cup contest, Canada v. United States, Van Ryn and Allison (U.S.A.) defeated Wright and' Rainville 6—2, 6—l, 6—2, giving the United States the series. Shields defeated Wright B—6, 6—l, 12—10,6—1. Vines defeated Rainville 6—3, 6—3, 6- 4.

HARD COURT CHAMPS. LONDON, April 30. In the hard court tennis championship finals. Perry beat Rogers (.Ireland) 4—6, 7—9, 6—3, 6—o, 6— 2; Mathew and Martin, Legea-y (France) beat Perry and Miss Heeley 6—2, 6—o.
