the legislative COUNCIL. If the nine members of the Legislative Council who are due to retire on May 7 are not reappointed the 'strength of the Council will (says a •Press Association telegram) be reduced to 25. The present strength is 34. Those members whose term will expire on Saturday are Sir John Sinclair, Mr T. *\V. .Alison, Mr V. T. Fleming. Mr G. J. Garland, Mr J. P*. Gow,, Mr A. F. Hawke, Mr XV. Stewart. Mr G. 'M. Thomson and Mr W. 11. Triggs, all of whom were appointed or reappointed on May 7, 1925.
