CONJECTURE AS TO MOTIVE.

SYDNEY, April 29
Fifteen hundred niemuius of the New South Wales police iorce took part in a march tt.rough Lie city streets to-day. Cycle pairoff, w.rele,-,, patrols, and “Black Marias.” also OoU part in it. This was a most unusual procession. Nothing like it has ever occurred before. Even tho police are unaware of the motive.
A section of the press has described it as “a gestuio oi the public benefit.” There were lusty cheers along the routes. The Governor, Sir P. Game took the salute m tile \ ic-inity of Parliament House, and with him were the Premier, Air Lang; the Chief Secretary, Mr Gosling; the Chief Commissioner of Police, Mr Childs; and the former Police Chief, Mr .Mitchell.
There was an excited crowd at the saluting base, who cheered the Premier vociferously when he was about to depart.
OFFICIAL •■EXPLANATION.” SYDNEY, April 29. An official explanation has been given of the police parade that wn*j held to-day in Sydney. It was merely a police review, similar to reviews in other part-: of the world. The explanation adds that it was simply part of police drill and training and had no other significance.
