SERIOUSLY ILL
MAYORESS poisoned.
ptomaine case suspected,
CHRISTCHURCH* April 27, The Mayoress, Mrs D. D. Sullivan, i s at present seriously ill, and is believed to be suffering from ptomaine poison- ! lug. At breakfast yesterday she complained that she was not feeling well, I and shortly afterwards 'had to retire j to bed. She rapidly became worse, and : by the time a doctor had 1 arrived, could not speak. As a consequence, difficulty was experienced in diagnosing the i trouble, and though there is no doubt that it is a case of poisoning, there is no proof that it is ptomaine. As Mrs Sullivan could not speak for the greater part of yesterday, she was not able to tell Dr. R. W. Anderson, who attended her, what she had eaten in the previous twenty-four hours. On Tuesday Mrs Sullivan was 51. member of a fishing party. She had fresh ham sandwiches and cakes, so it is thought unlikely that she could have been poisoned through this medium. A nurse is in attendance at Mrs Sullivan’s home, as she cannot be taken to the hospital. Late last night her condition was still sjerious, though there was a slight improvement. Mr ■Sullivan wil arrive from Wellington by the ferry steamer this morning, ,» ilium 11 ■iN umi
