PAYMENT OF LEVY

DECLARATION OF INCOME. . SIMULTAXEOUS DUTIES. In-rthe Unemployment -A mem d rrrf’nl: Act, 1932, .it is provided that the dates for making declarations regarding ■income shaj! he identical with those upon which the unemployment levy becomes due. This provision simplifies the process of complying with the law by enabling those concerned to pay tlm levy and declare their income (other than salary or wages) at the same time. The making of the declaration will enable a. decision to l e reached quickly and accurately' whether a, tax is payable ; in a large number of . instances •there may be no liability, and in th“se cases a declaration will ensure* that the persons concerned will have no ‘‘"rtcer responsi'blity with respect to that quarter’s tax. Declaration forms are provided all money order offices, and postal olfidials will give every assistance and information to the public who desire to make a return of income. The next instalment of the unem ployment levy becomes due on Ist May and when paying it the declaration ol income should also be signed. An important point to remember i* r|v.t it 'is optional whether th- declaration of income is made at a post offici or to the Income lax ■Commissioner : hut if a return of income has beer m•■•do to the latter official it is essential that a declaration that thi-fl-jas been do no s'liaF be made at Ihe post office—it iis not necessary to male two declarations ot income.
