MURDER CHARGE
TOMAHAWK CASE ACCUSED’S PLEA OF NOT GUILTY (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 26. Lewis Wili am O’Connor was charged in the Supreme Court with tile murder of Findlay Douglas Liuh,.nan at Tomahaw k on March 36. Aeaue. pleaded not guilty. Counsel for bot.i the Crown and the accused freely exercised their right of challenge in the selection of the jury. Evidence wag led to show that shortly after mid-night on March 29, accused went to deceased’s house and asked for a cigarette. Deceased gave him one and advised h'ni to go home, they parting from all accounts, on good terms. Shortly afterwards accused returned and shot Buchanan when the latter opened the door to him.
Witnesses spoke of the drunken condition of the accused about the time of the occurrence. The case will be continued and probably concluded to-
morrow. The jury wag locked up for the night.
DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED, SYDNEY, April 27. The death sentence on Chrysta] and Farlow on September 29th, for wounding, with intent to- murder, a constable at Vaucluse on July 28, lias been commuted to life imprisonment.
