A boat Fatality occurred at the Mata ki oil Friday evening, Mr Alex Murdoch being drowned, and his sum sun, Mr Lon Robertson, having a fortunate escape from a like fate (says the Westport, “News”). Deceased, who was in o-ltli year, was a brother-in-law of Mr E. Wall and about two years ago retired from the Post and Telegraph Department. For the past twelve months he has visited the district periodically, residing with his step-son, Mr Robertson, who recently acquired the property formerly owned by Mrs IV. Tester at Mataki. The tragedy occurred at about 10.30 p.m., the men leaving Mr Mali’s at 10 o’clock to cross the Mataki river to the homestead on the far s'de.
