BURNING MINE
CAUSING MUCH ANXIETY.

SYDNEY, April 23
There is a fire, in .some abandoned colliery workings beneath the township of Greta, near Newcastle. It is causing anxiety. Volumes of smoke are issuing from the openings in the earth. The smokehats killed the vegetation in the vicinity. and it is affecting the householders and also the water supplies Alanv people fear there will be- an explosion which 1 .may wreck their homes DANGER NOW MORE SERIOUS. SYDNEY, April 26. Alum serious fianios are now shooting above the ground from another spot-, pome distance from where the smoke is issuing, and endangering the main northern railway.
BIG FLAMES DO DAMAGE. (Received this day at 9.25 a.m) SYDNEY, April 26. Greta fires have extended considerably, and are now a definite menace to the safety of the main northern railway line. Flames, which rose to ~ height of sixty feet, caught the pit head of the central Greta colliery, and destroyed practically all the overhead struetue.
