AN ELOPEMENT
WITH A DANCE GIRL. NEW YORK April 2U. New York’s “Great White Way” today provided this season’s tastiest morsel of gossip when the news leaked out that Allan Carlisle, a Harvard undergraduate, and the son of Jay Carlisle, the millionaire Wall Street broker, had eloped, on December 23 last year with Miss Romadne Fleming, a professional dancing partner in a Broadway ball-room. Mr Carlisle, it is said, first met the girl when he visited the Orpheum Dance Palace, in the Times Square district, and paid the customary 10 cents (sd) to' dance with Miiss Fleming. During the evening the couple entered a tango competition and won a silver loving cup, the first prize. Afterwards Mr Carlisle paid frequent visits to the dance hall, paying ten cents for each dance, of which sum Mi:ss Fleming, a- pretty platinum blonde, pocketed her regular commission of five cent*. Finally Mr Carlisle proposed, and in defiance of his parents’ wishes, the weddjng took place while he was on his Christmas holidays from Harvard, the couple motoring to Rye, in New York State, and enlisting the services of the local country pastor. Believing her wedding to Mr Carlisle to be a 'complete isecret, Miss Fleming returned to her job at the Orpheum, and remained there until last week-end, when she left.
