Defendant smiled. “You can’t have your cake and eat it too, mister,” he replied. “My pipe has been worth a lot more to me than the hit of money I’d have saved if I’d not been a smoker." “Buf," urged Counsel “you’d not only have saved money, you’d have ’enjoyed better health ?" “Don’t you worry about my health,” sneered defendant. “I’m in the pink. Smoking don't hurt me. Been smoking toasted New Zealand tobacco for years. The toasting works the nicotine out of it. It’s the finest tobacco in the world.” Counsel gave it- up as a bad job!
