TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From “West Coast Times,” for week ending April, 23, 1907.) Municipal Elections. —The municipal nominations closed at noon yesterday, twelve being received for the; position of councillors, of whom nine constitute the council. Hie nominations are Thomas William Hen re, Howard Bessel Bock, John Jerome Breeze, Herbert Maxton Coulson, W il'liani Heinz, John Lloyd, Herbert Alaeandrow Francis McGregor, John AlcSherry, Thomas Palmer, Theophilus la Motile Halle, Edward Henry Bobinson. The new aspirants are Messrs lloTiinson, Coulson, McGregor and T. Palmer. The nomination of Mr H. L. Michel is the only one for the Mayoralty.

Victoria Hockey Club. —The annua! meeting of the Victoria Hockey Club was held, on Tuesday evening. The following officers were elected :—President, Mr H. Wake; vice-presidents, Messrs H. L. Michel and H. Williams; Captain Mr 31. "Wilson ; vice-captain, Mr W. Williams; secretary, Mr AL .Moore; committee, Messrs E. Breeze, M. Stewart and officers.

Debating.—There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Hokitika Catholic Literals and Debating Society last evening when the following officers were appointed President, Air J. Toomey; vice-president, Mr M. Daly; Spiritual Director, Rev. Father Aubry; sec. and treas-, Air R. Cox; auditor, Mr J- J. Burke; committee. Alessrs V- ADixon, L. Dwan, G. Wormington, T. Daly and T. J. Green. Mutual Improvement Society—A largely attended meeting was held in All Saints’ Schoolroom last evening of those interested in the formation of a Mutual Improvement Society. The proposal was decided upon, the society to ho known as the “Hokitika Social Guild,” and offeers were appointed as 'followsPresident-* Rev. H. S. Leach; vice-president, Air H. L. Michel; committee, Alessrs Lnmpe. Alabin and Dykes and Mosdames Robeck and Bock sour., and Aliss Thompson; sec. and treas., Air V. Goodiirk, editor of Guild magazine. Mr G. hi ilk.

Kumara Alayoraltv.—Messrs T. \ . Byrne and J. A. Murdoch have been nominated for the Kumara .Mayoralty. The only nomination for office ms councillors were those of the present members, .so that no election will he necessary. Seddon Memorial. —A meeting ol the Seddon Alemorial subscribers was held last evening when Air T. AlcGuigan was voted to the chair. Several designs were exhibited, and it was ultimately decided to select lour to he forwarded to Airs Seddon for her inspection as follows : —Drinking fountain, in granite, £42n; statue c the late* PFMPrhCT, - 1n 'granite, £(500 ; white bronze statue. £430 ; and gran te memorial pillar with drinking lmintain, £4OO. 'Hie secretary (Mr D. J. Evans) reported that the total subscription's received to late amounted to £272.

Householder's Meet.—l he annual meeting of householders ol the Hokitika District High School was laid last evening when Mr Michel was toted to the chair.
