VICAR CHARGED
PUBLICITY FOR- HEARING
adjournment of case,
(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.)
LONDON, April 17
Referring to the large number of letters received' by the church authorities protesting against the publication of the evidence in the Consistory Court relating to the charges of misconduct against Rev. H. Davidson, the rector of Stiff key, Norfolk, and urging that the case he held in camera, the Chancellor of the Diocese, Mr F. Keppel North LL.B., said: “I have no power to hold the inquiry in camera, and if I had I would not, as X believe in publicity. “Despite the seriousness of publishing unsavoury details,” he added, “it is not nearly so serious as secret trials might he. If things are supposed to be wrong, a careful inquiry should be made.”
The Court decided to grant Davidson an adjournment until May 19, when the case for the prosecution is concluded in order t-o enable him to raise funds to continue to meet the expenses of counsel, who otherwise would withdraw from the case.
In order to avoid an adjournment, the prosecution offered to place £250 at the disposal of the defence, and when that had been expended to consider further advances
