RETURNED SOLDIERS ASSOCIATION

ANZAC DAY* COMMEMORATION. In connection with the commemoration of An zoo Day, the Returned Soldiers have arranged for the sale of poppies, the flower of remembrance, mi Saturday next, in connection with ! that movement a Paddy’s Market will also he held directed by a strong j ladies’ committee, under tbe leaaerI ship of the Mayoress (Mils Perry). A variety of goodla are being donated by both town and country residents, and these will he sold for the benefit of the Association funds. The stalls will bo centred at tbe Soldiers’ Hall in Sewell Street, where vegetables, and gifts of poultry, meaty flowers, and farm produce generally will be on sale from 10 n.m. onward. Light freshments will also be obtainable at the Hall. From the Soldiers’ Hall, the sellers of poppies will operate. Those are of new design, and will be sold for one shilling each, or such larger coin as the public is disposed to contribute. In the evening following the gale, there will be a dance in the hall, music by tbe Black Hand Orchestra.

On Monday next (Anzac Day) Returned men have been invited to attend morning service at their respective Churches, and in the afternoon will parade in connection with the Anzac Memorial Service at the Prfnoesa Theatre. Following military honours to fallen comrades at the South African memorial and Great War cenotaph, the men will march to the Hokitika cemetery to lay poppy wreaths 011 graves of soldiens, afterwards "returning to tfm Soldiers’ Hall for afternoon tea. In the evening at tbe Princess Theatre there will be a concert entertainment commencing at 7.45 o’clock in aid of the Hall building fund. Messrs Menzies land Brown are trie organisers, and a well varied programme will be submitted. It is expected that there will be a larger parade than before of returned men for the commemoration service, whereat Captain Abbott will deliver the principal address.
