A WOMAN GAOLED

AUCKLAND, April 18.

A number of important cases consequent on the rioting, was beard in the Police Court this morning.

Violet Robinson, 32, a married woman, living in Remuera, was charged with throwing stones in Pitt Street on Friday night, breaking a window valued at £3O inciting lavvlessiieas and! stealing a clock, gold ling etc. <>l a value of £< 15s. She admitted the inciting charge omy. Evidence was given by detectives that on the night of the riot in Pitt Street she threw stones, breaking a window and she was calling out words of the Red Flag and she abused passing 'specials, and called them a “scabby lot of •” Accused m evidence said—“l admit throwing one stone.” Magistrate Hunt—“ That’s enough for me.” Accused is aid a man in the crowd handed her the jewellery. She intended to give it to the police but was arrested meantime. Detective Sergt. Kelly said the woman during a minor riot over a year ago threw bricks, and she was then given a chance. She had ten previous convictions for theft Magistrate Hunt .sentenced her to nine months’ gaol. TWO MONTHS’ GAOL,

Oswald William Henry McGrath, 34, an engineer in employment, for breaking a window in Symonds Street on Saturday night and jeering, at the police when they were advising the crowd to go home, received U.vo months’ gaol. SIX MONTHS’ GAOL.

Ho pa George Shalfqon, 25, a seaman, found illegally on premises and also charged \vitli theft of footwear, shifts and jewellery on Thursday, was sentenced to six months’, to be followed by a year’s reformative. He bad previously been convicted of theft and probationed.
