Grievances in connection with the rations day at the H"tt led to some trouble to-day with the unemployed. The Mayor was absent, but- tne DeputyMayor, -Mr Mitchell, heard of the matter! lie invited the unemployed demonstrators to come to the Lyceum Hall, where he asked for a concise statement of the grievances. The grievances related not only to the methods of rations distribution, but also were grievances as to the quality in the case oi meat. Despite a warning from Mr Mitchell, as to the serious nature of the, motion, the following was carried by the meeting: “That, failing an immediate satisfactory reply by the Deputy-Mayor to the demands of this meeting, we wait en masse upon the Charitable Air) officials; and that, if we do not get what we want, we will take it 1 ’ 1 1- Mitchell was to be waited upon later for his answer.' After considering the giievan.es o' the men from reports presented by the Deputy Mayor, the Hospital and dial itable Aid officials issued the following statement: —
“That the tin •ee;-di,y and tour-day men who lost time last week and will lose time this week, may obtain relief from here on Friday morning from eleven o’clock onwards. A deputy fiom various jobs may obtain the chits for his gang if the ganger will simply the necessary list of men affected.” This message is being delhered to the men this afternoon.
FOOD TICKETS REFUSAL. DUNEDIN, April 14. At a special meeting, the Hospital Hoard to-day .refused to consider a return to the system of issuing chits to the unemployed, as demanded by the demonstrators. STILL MORE DUNEDIN ARRESTS. DUNEDIN. April 14. Two further arrests were made this afternoon in connection with the unemployment disturbances. One mail will he charged with breaking windows in the relief depot on Friday, The other man w ( ill be charged with being a. rogue and a vagabond, and with the carrying of a bludgeon, a weapon comprised of two feet of one-inch iron piping.
