In the Legislative Council yesterday. Sir James Parr, moving the second reading of the Unemployment Amendment 'Bill, said it was the duty of the Government arc! khe people to feed, clothe and house the unemployed, and he thought /the public would accept the shilling wage tax as cheerfully as possible. It was expected that 7,000 men would he placed on the laud under tin NOlieine. Hon. Mclntyre said 'that he was n-ot satisfied with the Bill, hut would vote for it as he had no desire to prevent the money from being made available to the work Joss. He thought that women should he included in any rebel grtmhed. Hon. TV. Buddo favoured setting up district committees to ensure that the n’oivy available would be spent in (h“ most economical manner. The debate was adjourned and the Council rose at 4.59 p.m.
