City Council will not give him a permit,” said DetectiveSergeant Kelly in the Police Court, when a midaie-aged man, Cecil Wallace Stuart, was charged with disturbing persons in a public street. The offence was admitted. Counsel for the defence said Stuart claimed to have a “message,” and for a number of years he had been engaged in open-air preaching. “Ye S I know him,” remarked the Alagistrate, Mr F. K. Hunt. “He :a a pest and a nuisanse. He just props liis bicycle against a post and talks for an hour or more. He has no congregation or anything else.” Air Kelly said many people in Newton had been disturbed by the conduct of defendant.
Air Hunt: I. don’t mind if he stays in Karangahape Road and does not come to my district.
Stuart was fined £1 and (osts, 10--. “Next time you want to preach, go to a park; don’t stand in a busy street and talk,” advised the Alagistrate.
