STRONG APPEAL
TO GOVERNMENT
BY STATE EMPLOYEES. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) WELLINGTON, April 13. A meeting of delegates of the Wellington branches of States Employees Organisations carried a resolution strong |y appealing to the Government to refrain from further restricting “its short sighted policy ol reducing the purchasing power of the workers ol the Dominion, which can lead only to disaster to the State and the community as a whole, particularly the business section and farmers, owing to tilt; consequent extensive destruction ol the. local markets, and the huge increase in the already large army ol unemployed men ami women.” The resolution urges (1) that, in some departments, retrenchment lots been so severe as to affect the efficiency; (2) that the withholding ot annual increments of the younger members of State services constitutes a breach ol contract and throws an inequitable burden on tile shoulders of those least able to bear it; (3) that the Government adopts constructive measures already advocated by the Dominion Executives of State Employees’ Organisations and workers generally, instead of “out-01-date proposals that assuredly must bring ruin and disaster to our country.” . Assurance is given that, in passing this resolution, the State employees I arc not actuated by a spirit of selfishness or desire to shirk their fair share of tlie common burden, or to unduly harass the Government, but by loyaltv to the country and the great traditions of the pioneers, who “sought to establish a State that would provide I a bright and wholesome lekson to the 1 civilised world, and which, as a result, I became for many a year, the wonder and envy of other countries, the ideal, from which it is wholeheartedly regretted. those in present authority are seeking to depart.”
