The deliberate defiance of a Magistrate’s order banning* a procession led to a grave outbreak of rioting in Allahabad. Mrs Motilal Nehru was struck on the head by a stone. A number of the police were injured. One constable bad an arm blown off by a bomb flung from ;• railway bridge. The mob kept up a running fight along the road. Electric lines and standards were pulled down. The city was plunged in darkness for hours. Armed pickets are now in control.
