Even in the literary world the same distress is evident. In «n advertisement in one of Berlin’s largest dailies, a, German writer, claiming to he of world-wide reputation, offers to write the story of anyone’s life in a manner guaranteed to be artistic, and based ~n personal notes of those who wish to be written up. To attract business, he stressed the value of such a life story Lis 0 suitable present for Christmas. Twice a week writers offer then wares in an exchange, in the hope of finding a buyer, or of meeting representatives of newspapers.
