RETURNEDSOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION

FRIDAY, APRIL Bth. Tlie Committee of the above met at the Soldiers’ Hall at 8.0 p.m. Present: Messrs D J. Evans (President), R. Paterson, Eade, Brown, Menzies, Armstrong, Bfcabh, Gilchrist, Bade, and Lynch. All apology was received for Air T. Stuart. An acknowledgment of a letter of sympathy was received from the Malfroy family. J. M. Key wrote thanking the Committee for the recognition of his work. The Westport RjS.A. enquired regarding a member indisposed, and a reply was sent of a favourable nature.

McMillan and Adamson applied for the use of the hall for a term on Saturday nights and the request was granted on terms to be stipulated in writing.

The Westland Hospital Board replied it was not able at present to cohslder the question of the R.S.A medical LtfuiucLto write again in May. The Christchurch 11.5. A. wrote regarding a ease for appeal for a widow’s pension, and it was resolved to get into touch with Dr. Baird regarding this and another serviceman’s case lor evidence or reports on the cases which had been under the Doctor’s care.

Headquarters, Wellington, wrote in respect to several administrative matters.

Several letters regarding the Flock House scheme were received. There was now room for 35 boys. The Secretary said that so far there had been no applications, and these should now be made. It was an excellent opening for the sons of ex-soldiers to receive farm training.

Messrs Menzies and Brown reported the arrangement of the programme lor the Anzac Concert was well under way. The concert will be held in the Plriueess Theatre 'on 'Monday, 25th. at 8 p.m. Admission was fixed at 2s and Is.

The .Secretary reported a membership of 61, including 20 new members, and' a credit balance of £55. The sum of £33 had been spent on employment.

Messrs G. A. King and A. Graham (Waiho Gorge) were elected members. The Secretary reported the poppies had been received and were now being sent to the country schools. The ladies in town were arranging for the sale and Paddy’s Market to be held on Saturday, April 23., at the Soldiers’ Hall. Mr W. T. Cropp had undertaken the collection of gifts in ti ' Kokatahi-Koiterangi district, ana gifts from all quarters would be welcomed. Gifts of flowers etc from Christchurch were promised. The ladies of the Women’s Institute would take charge of a stall. The annual meeting of the Branch was fixed for Monday, May 16th. and the annual re-union will be held at a date to be fixed thereafter.

The meeting concluded at 8.50 p.m
