Football —The annual meeting of the National Football Club whs held last evening. The following officers wqre elected: President, Mr H. L. Michel j vice-presidents, Messrs T. Y, t .Seddon. W. Hall, . F. King, A Stodman, F. McGregor, T. Palmer, J. J. Breeze. \V. Bray, F. Wade, J .Kidd; captain, P. Daly ; deputy captain, 'D. Dee;

secretary, T Kearns; selectors, Messrs Daly, Dee, Breeze, Dowell, Groufsky.; committee, Messrs Woolhouse, Whit-

nell and Debenham. Masonic—One of the most brilliant functions ever held on the'West Coast took place at the Town Hall last evening when the reception of the Most .Worshipful Bi-o. Lord Plunkett was held at the invitation of, and under the auspices of Lodge Westland Kilwinning) The Lodge was opened by W.M. Bro. J. McMillan who delivered an appropriate address of welcome. At the conclusion of the Lodge the assemblage adjourned to the. Drill Shed where a social and dance was held. The following contribute,d! items. Bros. D. Hutton, W. Bray, S. 'Ridgwny, J. J. Breeze, Misses F. Stapleton, Gertie White, A. Malfroy, W. White, Michel, Mrs E. H. Robinson and Mr W. E. Williams.

Buliding Society—The annual meeting of the shareholders in the Westland Industrial Building Society (No 1) was held in tile Town ll.fi ll last evening Mr H. L. Michel presided. Messrs D. J. Evans and W. E. Williams were re-elected directors, and Messrs A. B. King and A. M. JL Keller auditors.

School at Ross—The building, of the new Roman Catholic School, pt Ross is now nearing completion. . The building is being erected by Mr F. Cameron, who has put very faithful work into the construction. South Westland Rivers—The rivers in South Westland are at the present time in an unfordable state. The Wataroa and Wanganui rivers especi-

ally are in a very treacherous .condi-t , tion, and a party of thirteen horseman travelling from South to '.attend .the Kuinara and Hokitika races, wore compelled to' swim their horses yesterday. The bridging, of the rivers referred to is eagerly looked forward to by the settlers residing in the southern districts-

Shooting—Teams representing the Ist Westland Rifles and, . Dennjston Rifles met in a shooting match at Kaaieri, the visitors winning by. 800 to 749. The loser’s scores were: Pte. Hutchison 89, Pte. Hokitika Railway Station—Loud complaints are being made to the-,-.de-lay of the railway authorities, in delivering goods in Hokitika to ..the consignees. Part of the. Kopnya’s cargo for Hokitika which. arrived in Grey over a week ago is still- undelivered. Mr Nicolson, the stationmaster here, and the local staff do all in their power to facilitate matters, bui the fact is that the station under* manned.

Valedictory—A very pleasant function took place in the Wesleyan Vestry last evening when the young men of the Mentipultural Society assembled to bid farewell to the Rev. W. J. Elliott, president of the society. Mrj W. Shannon who occupied the chair 1 explained the object of the meeting' and called on Mr G. Hill, who pre- : sented Mr Elliott with a handsome; pocket wallet. He wished both Mr and Mrs Elliott Godspeed in their new sphere of labour. ;
