In connection with the forthcoming Westland Competitions, all entries close with the Secretary, Mr Qsmers, on Wednesday next. The national classes ol dancing, will be divided into junior (under ID years) and senior (10 t,o 13 year's) B ections. The steamer Horn rata, owned by the New Zealand Shipping Sompany, is at present on route to New Zealand hoin Ihigland. The Hororata was the second British ship to have her furnaces converted to burn pulverised coal. As tht' experiment was affected by the slump in the coal trade following on the use of oil as fuel in vessels, it was said to mean much to shipowners.
