AT AWAPUNI
LAKE FILLING RAPIDLY.

HAMILTON, March 6
Rain which fell yesterday and today has accelerated the filling of Arapnni Lake and it is expected the water will commence to flow over the spillway at 9 o’clock instead of 12 o’clock to-night. It will take nearly 24 hours after that to reach the full capacity of the diversion tunnel. The gates were raised yesterday afternoon lor 5 hours to let through enough water to enable Horahorato give temporary relief to King’s wharf povyeistation, Auckland, during;.the wet. weather peak load. ~; t „ The drying out of the machinery is proceeding rapidly and the prospects for resumption of power supply by the week end are encouraging. The river level at Hamilton rose one foot eight inches in the last 24 hours and should resume normal on Friday morning.
Along both banks of Waipa river, slips occurred and! several trees have Jlallen into ’the waiter. Cattle are unable to get to the water level to drink and some that tried became bogged in the mud
