The annual meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union was held last evening. Mr A. A. Adams presiding over an attendance of the following delegates : Messrs T. P. Ryan,. H. Steely. J. Rothwell, J. Kyle, T. Mclntosh, W. V ‘Williams, 1. Eteel, W. Delaney, E. Eggleton, J. Cornish, A, White, C. Rodgers and the secretary, Mr J. W. Bruce.

liie annual report which is as follows was read and adopted:— In presenting the annual report your committee feels that it can look back on the 1931 season as a successful one, and one which market great progress in Rugby football on the West Coast in that the procuring of a, playing area of its own was finalised by the Union. This could only be done with the splendid assistance given by the N.Z.R.U. and local supporters of the game to whom we are very grateful. Special thanks are due to Mr T. Fletcher of :thc N.Z.R.U. Management Committee for his great assistance in this matter.

Since the last annual meeting a great supporter of the game and a former President of the Union, Mr D. McKay has passed away, and-to Mrs McKay and family your committee extends its deepest sympathy. The revival of the Lake Brunner Sub-division added to the strengh of the Union, and some of the players gained places in the local representative team.

Representative games were played with Buffer at Westport and Greymouth, and we met Buffer for a third time for the Seddon Shield. A Maori representative team was also met, and provided interesting football. Although unsuccessful in these games our players put up a good display, and the form of some of the younger players nromises well for this season’s football. Duo to various difficulties a weakened side travelled to Hokitika, and was defeated by the Westland Sub-Union for the Dittman ’Shield. Our junior representatives met the Lake Brunner Sub-division at Cobden ‘and at Te Kinga ,and after two good displays were narrowly beaten by a heavier team.

The winners of the Club Competitions were :—Senior Competition ; Cobden, Senior Knock-out: Rivals. Junior Competition: Kumara, ' Junior Knock-out: Kumara, Third Grade Competition, United. The Fourth Grade Competition proved unsatisfactory, and my committee suggest that tlie incoming committee go into this question with the idea of creating greater interest in this grade. The balance sheet showing a credit balance of ; 7s os wus,.' /Mid adopted. The election of officers for the 1932 season resulted as follows: President Mr A. A, Adams (re-elected); VicePresidin’,ta ■ Messrs T. Mclntosh, A. White, J, Guy (re-elected); Secretary, Mr j/ W. Bruce (re-elected) ; Treasurer, Mr J. Kyle (re-elected); Auditor, Mr T. P. Ryan (re-elected); Resident Delegate to the N.Z.R.U., Mr Bowman (re-elected); Visiting delegate to the N.Z.R.U., Mr A. A. Adams; Custodian, Mr J. McLeod (reelected) ; Vice-President of the N.Z.R. U., Mi- F. Eggleton. It was resolved that a letter of thanks be sent to Mr and Mrs J. McLeod for the great assistance given the Union during the past season.

Mr Evan stated that now that the Union had become incorporated it had the power to create life members, and he moved that Mr Norman Jones, who had for many years given his valued services ns Secretary of the Union, he made a life member. He had done yeonian service during some of the Union’s most stressful rears and his great work should be

recognised. The President seconded the motion which was carried unanimously. It was resolved that the fixtures for the coming season commence on April 23rd, and that nominations be in the hands of the secretary before noon on Tuesday April 12.
