INQUIRY AT WELLINGTON. INVESTIGATIONS CONCLUDED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association 1 WELLINGTON, April 5. The City Commissioners, H. E. Morton, of Melborne, and H. D. Vickery, of Wellington, have presented their report, on the results of the investigations extending over three months into the methods of administration of the city corporation. The report is very voluminous, extending into 201 typewritten folios.

No drastic recommendations are made in respect to any department. Certain internal reorganisations are recommended in the Engineering Department, and some reductions in staff ere also considered desirable. It is recommended that officers of the Town Planning Department should be transferred to the Survey Branch of the Engineering Department. The Comissioners have a good deal to say in praise of the Milk Department. They, do not favour the suggested separation of the tramway and Electricity Departments, and say the terms of the present agreement with tramway employees thunk? lm subject to revision. Penny train faros are not supported, and the long distance fare of 3sd, is stated to be very low for a city of Wellington’s population density. If is recommended that one-man cars should be introduced. It is a qustion of policy of how far the Council is justified in providing bus transport on unprofitable routes

NEW OUTLET TO HUTT VALLEY. WELLINGTON. April 5. The new street running from Waterloo Quay, with an overhead connection to Hutt Road, and £20.000, is to he tile compensation given to the Wellington City Council for the loss °f Thorndon Esplanade, taken over b.v the Railway Department
