TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO.

(From “West Coast Times”, for'week ending, March 26th, 1907. Pcrsonel—Mr T. J,. Ralfe has been appointed secretary of the Hokitika Tennis Club vice Mr -J. C. Mahroy, who has resigned owing to his promotion as Clerk to the Poii. e Court at Dunedin.

Hockey—A ’ general meeting of the Hockey Club was held last evening, Mr J. -J. Mclntosh presiding. It was decided that the cluo colours he reel and black. Messrs Wade, Lyons and Dykes were appointed delegates to the West.. Coast Hockey Association. Toe resignation of Mr Ma-froy as vkecaptain was received with regret, the chairman, Air Wade, referring to his services to the club. Harbour Board- —It is understood that Mr. William Baxter will be a candidate for a seat on the Harbour Board at the coming election. The names of other gentlemen mc-uunecl as likely candidates are Messrs R. Wild, J. J. Mclntosh, as well as several of the old members of the B ard.

Football—At the annual meeting of the United Football Club it was decided to enter a team for the Junior Cup and the President’s flag competitions. Mr H. Ilonar was appointed captain, and Mr G. Meharry secretary and treasurer.

Trade Protection—A largely attended meeting of the Hokitika branch of the West Coast Trade Protection Society was held last night. Mr Lindsay, secretary laid on the table a list cf “bad payers.” A long discussion ensued in regard to the credit system, and it was ultimately resolved to take definite steps generally to curtail the credit system to weekly or monthly accounts, according to occupation; or mode of payment of tradesmen’s customers.

Personal—The Rev W. -J. Elliott will conduct his farewell services in the Boss Methodist Church on Sunday. Mr Stenhouse, the newly .appointed clerk of the Magistrate’s Court at Hokitika will arrive here next Thursday night. Presbyterian Church—The annual congregational' meeting of the Presbyterian Church was held last evening and was presided over by the Rev. W. Douglas M.A. The various reports showed that satisfactory progress had been made in the different branches of church activities during the year. The latter part of the mating was devoted to social intercourse, the following items being contributed: solos by Misses Harker Moore and Day,

Airs Russell, Messrs F'olley and Renton and Master Ironsides. Air' Morris!) contributed a recitation and Air McNaughton a reading. Okuru—We learn that an officer of the Public Works Department is to bo sent to Okuru to report on the improvement of the berthage at the Okuru wharf. It is expected that this will involve the necessity for some harbour improvements there.
