BOXING ASSOCIATION

HOKITIKA CLUB WEEKLY MEETiNG.

The weekly' meeting of the Boxing Association was 'held in Keller’s Booms. Air J. Stafford presided over a full attendance' of members.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Outward con eispondence was read and approved. Inward read and received.

It was 1 resolved that the agreement between Johnnie Leckie and Harry Johns be signed for their contest to take place at the Baths Stadium on Wednesday, March 30th. the first preliminary to take place at 8 p.m sharp and the professional contest to take place after second preliminary.

The following officials were appointed : —Beferee, F. O’Neill, of Runanga ; official seconds, J. Collett and D. Breeze; lion, surgeon, Dr. Hart; gong steward, J. Stafford; timekeepers, M. Houston senr., and M. MeGavin; round •steward, R. Bell; ushers, R. Lynn and F, Ballinger; weighing steward, A. Yarrall; glove stewards, D. R. Dowell and J. Atkinson; megaphone, W. Haybittle; gatekeepers, 0. Hahn and J, Johnson.

J, Johnson donated a medal, and it was resolved to award this Inedal to fh& winner of the Chisholm Mclntosh bout, and that R. Lynn’s medal be awarded to the winner of the other preliminary, The ‘Secretary was authorised to procure 1,000 dodgery and distribute at Kumara and 1 Hokitika > races.

The secretary advised that arrangements had been completed and that the boxers would arrive' in Hokitika, on Tuesday and that already seats were being booked and it would be necessary to have extra seating arranged at the western end of the stadium. The ring would be illuminated by 2,000 candlepower globes and patrons would have an exceptional view of the contest.

Great rivalry exsits between the two boxers and a capital contest is assured. F. Ballinger and the secertary were authorised booking agents and patrons could make certain of a seat by reserving with either. It was resolved to- suspend members free admission passes in order to give the Associaton every chance to make a success of the contest.

Seating accommodation, will be arranged for 1,009 persons and every patron would have an uninterrupted view of the contest.

The Hokitika Boxing Association having agreed that it was about time the local patrons and local amateurs were .r; given the opportunity of seeing a pro- £££ fessional boat and the association sorted out two of New Zealand’s, premier xu boxers and they wore approached aiiU r terms for a. contest were agreed upon, Never before in the history of boxing have local patrons had the opportunity of witnessing two such noted boxers as Harry Johns (lightweight champion) and Johnnie Leckie (featherweight champion), two fast clever boxers who never waste time clinching and hugging and both men are able to give a scientific exhibition of the noble 1 art and when they stand toe to toe the audience will be on their toes with excitement- Johnnie Leckie is known all over New Zealand and Australia as “Fighting, Johnnie,” and as a knock out artist Johnnie delivers the goods, Harry Johns is known as a clever boxer and who is improving with every contest. Last November this pair met in Auckland and Johns -took the verdict by a points decision after one of the most thrilling contests ever witnessed in the Auckland Town Hall, Tneir next meeting (takes place at Greymouth, but the rubber will be fought in Hokitika on Wednesday night at the Swimming Baths Stadium. This will be the crowning achievement for patrons of the sport as well as the awaited day between the boxers. Air A. Beban referees the contest at Gveymouth and Frank O’NeTTI will be the third man in the ring in Hokitika. What more can followers of the -sports desire.
