INTEREST IN BUDGET. (United Press Association. — By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) CAPETOWN, March 23. Exceptional interest is being taken in the Budget, the Assembly being packed. The Minister denied rumours that devaluation was probable. The Government refused to launch the country on a rake’s progress. He estimated that nine millions sterling were sent overseas over and above the ordinary requirements, including the deficit of nine hundred thousand from' the previous year and a shortage of two millions on the estimated revenue. The deficit is to be met by .-£3.735.01)0 extra taxation, which provides £3,535,000 including imposts on the gold industry, a surtax of five to ton per cent, on fixed interest, import, duties on farm machinery, spirits and tea.
