NEW YORK, March 21
A message from Birmingham, in the (State of Alabama, states that a least seventy-Two per„son s are known to have been killed and an undetermined number have been injured fatally, while several hundred persons are homeless as the result of a tornado, which struck (Western 'Alabama lat-e to-day.
The tornado also struck the States of Tennessee and Kentucky. A further message states;—“The deaths in yesterday’s tornadoes in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee, rose to 105 early to-day.

The death list grew during the night, and conunimili.es wore cut off by wind and rain. Restored communication at dawn brought reports of additional fatalities from rescue parties searching the wreckThere are 169 dead in Alabama, 30 in Georgia, 12 in Tennessee, two in Kentucky, and one in South Carolina. The property loss is heavy, and hundreds of peopTJ have been injured.
