CANTERBURY EDUCATION BOARD.
The Canterbury Education Board met at Christchurch on Friday. There were present: ' Messrs W. Armjtage (in the chair), W. A. Banks, H. J. B.igneil, S. iR. Eivison, J. Gow, J. J. Hurley, W. Johnson, J. Preen, S. Smith, U. s. Thompson, R. Wild, and W. P. Spencer. Appointments confirmed included: — Miss J. Berg, assistant mis'.ress r,t Ruatapuj Miss "EL P. Panckhur s t, assistant mistress at Watajoa.
Resignations accepted included -Miss B. MoSherry, assistant mouth; Miss M. McMahon, assistant mistress, ICaihinu; Mr A. H. See’beck headmaster, Ivumara (retiring) ; Mr J. H. Glague, headmaster, Wataroa. It was resolved to send a letter of appreciation to Mr A H. Seebeck who is retiring after long and efficient service.
Circular was received from the Department, stating that legislation was being promoted authorising the employment of ex-probationers at 810 P e, ‘ annum.
Letter was received from the Boys’ Welfare League (T'marn), suggesting • that rsteps should be taken to ensure employment of young people who had hoped to enter the teaching profession. Report of Senior Inspector on last year’s probationers, was received with thanks.
Circular was received from the Department, advising extension of tenure off Senior. Free Places until the end of the year, if students reached the age of nineteen during the year.
- An., application was received from the Runanga School of Mines for the use ot a room at the Runanga School or the co-operation of the Board in budding a room to be attached to the school for the convenience of. the School of Mines three nights .a week. It was resolved that .the application be referred to the Chairman of the Buildings Committee, with power to act.
The Foreman’s report for the month was received and adopted.
At Humphreys School the modern windows V have been installed and the authorized repairs carried out: The Committee expressed their appreciation of this work.
AGRICULTURE
It was resolved (that the headmaster of the Greymouth School be requested
to convey to Miss Lilhnrn the Board’s appreciation of the excellent agricultural ■ work accomplished by her class. | West Coast A.P. and I. Association's •Shield Competition: The results of this competition for the past season I were given as follows : —Barrytown 132 | points 1 ; Ngahere 125 points 2 ; Bum 114 points 3. \ It was resolved that complimentary letters be written to the above schools and that the usual prizes be awarded, i Mr G. S. Ridley’s report was read , and adopted.
