SINO-JAPANESE ACREEMENT

FINAL MEETING HELD.

SHANGHAI, March 19

What is regarded as the final meeting to secure a China-Japanese agreement was held this morning at tho British Consulate.

Yesterday the Japanese Minister, M. Shigemitsu, received his final instructions from Tokio, signifying the Japanese Government’s willingness to confine its proposals to three points, namely:—

(1) The Chinese troops to remain in their present position, pending a later settlement of the political aspects.

(2) Tbe Japanese troops to withdraw to the International Settlement, and from the extra Settlement roads in the Hongkew district. 3() A joint China-Japanese Commission, with neutral members, to supervise the with dmwal and tbe administration of the exacuated areas. Latar the Foreign Ministers announced that matters were proceeding smoothly, stating the two count: ies had been brought closer, and that it is anticipated that a complete settlement would lie reached this eiening.
