A combined meeting of civil servants attenued by representatives of seven organisations, including the I’, and T., uailway Employees, and Teachers, passed unanimously a resolution protesting against any further cut in their salaries and wages, in view of the fact that there had been no appreciable drop in the cost of living since the last cut, and no reduction in interest. Any further cut would aggravate the economic position, and embarass the business community, and would constitute a harsh and unjust action on the part of the Government.

DANGER TO EDUCATION.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 17.

A protest against tht economic* in education, proposed in a report of tho Economy Commision, which were described as “slashes,” rather than “cuts," was made by a large meeting to-night of the North Canterbury branch of the Educational Institute. A Series of resolutions was carried declaring that the cuts were inequitable in that undue hardship would be placed on training college students, and that primary women teachers would he treated . unjustly, also that economies wijj result in reducing the opportunities of children for efficient education, and that the Government be asked to give an assurance that any economies to be made will he reviewed at the end of .March, 1933.
