Owing to a tf) the ap('pointment of Mr Thom to the Indian judgeship, the Dunbarton bye-election resulted: Commander A. Cochrane /Conservative) 16,749; T. Johnstone (Labour) 13,714; G. Gray (Scottish Nationalist) 5,178 H. Mclntyre (Communist), 2,870. The latter lost liis deposit.
