BUTTER INDUSTRY
PROPOSAL FOR AMALGAMATION

A representative meeting of all the fioutli Island butter factories was hold here to-day, Mr J. Fisher (Southland) presiding. After discussion of the needs of the industry, it was decided that in order to reduce the costs to enable the industry u> meet altered economic conditions, each districit be asked to consider plans for the amalgamation of all the butter factories in its areu.
The meeti g was unanimously of opinion that the dairy industry should .'have a special representative at the Ottawa Conference, and endorsed the Dairy Board's decision that Mr Goodfellow should he the .representative (, f the industry as he was an outstanding personality in the industry to-day, and Ids knowledge of overseas marketing conditions was unrivalled,
