VICAR INDUCTED

REV. R. NEWCOME AT ROSS,

Last Wednesday evening in St. Paul’s Church, Ross, the Rev. R. Newcome, AI.A., was inducted a s vicar of Ross and South AVestland. The service commenced with the singing the the hymn, “The Cliureli s One Foundation,” after which, the Rural Dean, Rev. H. J. AY. Nnights, announced that, by the direction of tile Bishop, he was to induct the ltev. Raymond Newcome into the Cuie of Souls in the Parochial district of Ross and South AVestland, and he therefore called the congregation to prayer that he might be granted grace to fulfil ids high duties faithfully, both in will and deed.” The churchwarden, Mr Herman Osmers, then led the A icar and Rural Dean to the font, the prayer desk, the lectern, and the altar in turn ; at each place an appropriate lesson was road, followed by a declaration of the particular duty of the minister at that place. The Vicar then, in answer to the question “Will you do this?” promised the due obedience. The hymn, “AVe Love the Place, 0 God, Wherein Thine Honour Dwells” was then sung, after which the Rural Dean addressed the congregation on the purpose and meaning of the cernion.v; and called upon them to deal with their new vicar faithfully as required in his threefold aspect as their Priest, their Minister and their Brother of the spiritual family known as Christ’s Church.

The service concluded with the hymn, “0 Lord, How Joyful ’ tis to see the Brethren / Join in Love to Thee.” Mr Henry Thiele officiated at the organ ; and a good congregation included a \ number of visitors from Hokitika.
