WELLINGTON, March. 17.

On a. chjarge of being in possession of opium pipes, N. G. Fuan was fined £25 with costs, and for keeping a common gaming house, £29 with costs, in default three months’ imprisonment.

Ah Sue was fined £2O with costs, in default three months’ imprisonment, for keeping a common gaming house.

The premises in both cases kwere used for selling pakapoo tickets. Ernest Cook was fined £2 for being found in a common gaming house.

• Mrs Emma Haggett, of Wanganui, attained her hundredth birthday yesterday. She arrived at Lyttelton on the ship. British Empire in 1864, with her husband, Daniel, who came out under engagement of the proprietor cf the “Canterbury Standard,” a paper which ceased publication the following year. Mr Haggett then became overseer of the “Christchurch Press” for some years. She has three sous, two daughters, 24 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren living.
