AN ARREST IN GREYMOUTH

An arrest under rather unusual circumstances was made last evening bei ween 7.30 and 8 o’clock by the police in Grey mouth. For . some time past money has. been disappearing from the till at the office of Grey Motors Ltd., and therefore a watch was instituted. Various sums had disappeared, and the staff decided to set a it-rap in order to prevent suspicion resting upon? those of it heir number who held keys. A Humber of -marked coins tvere placed in tlie till, and the watch was set, tor •the first time, last evening. Within ball’ an hour it produced results.

•Shortly before the time mentioned,' a limn ,entered the premises and asked for the use of the telephone. The watcher, stationed above the office, which has no ceiling, is stated to have observed the man go to the till and take coins, and then al t”r using the telephone, return and take more coins. He was not questioned, but*the police were informed, and the man was subsequently questioned at his home in Phi ketown.

It. is alleged that marked coins were found on him, and lie was arrested. He will appear al the .Court to-day.
