WAGE REDUCTION
OHAMBER OP COMMERCE,
DECLINES TO GIVE SUPPORT

GISBORNE, March 16.
Containing a protest against''any further wage cuts, and seeking the Chamber’s aid in opposing such cuts,; a letter from the Gisborne Section of : the Public Service Association, was received at to-day’s meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce. The letter contended that the cuts would have a widespread and distastrous effect on business generally, and any further reduction to civil servants would mean that a sum of two million sterling would, be withdawn from, circuation; The letter urged that y a protest to the Government is essential in the interest of all engaged in business.
business. The members of the Chamber expressed sympathy with the public servants, but decided that the matter was outside the province of the Chamber, some of the speakers expressing the opinion that either wages or men had to be cut down.
