Mr O’Neil referred to the proposed notion of stopping the conveyance of children to school, and asked that an objection be made that the practice be not stopped until after this winter at any rate. He moved that the Minister of Education and Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., he written to, asking that the proposed recommendation be not carried into affect. He pointed out that in the case of the 'South Westland schools there was a saving of £BOO annually by the closing down of the lower grade schools and the conveying of the children to larger schools. The question of the regulating of the sale of pigs from the West Coast at the Addington market, so that the market would not he overcrowded each week was discussed, and it was stated that the matter was. receivin'* the required attention, which would regulate the market.' Mr D. Jellie said that the increase which the Native Trustee promised in the rents of native leases would be a considerable hardship for farmers. One farmer’s rent had been laisod, and it was intended to raise that of others. He felt they were entitled to a reduction instead of a rise considering the price of butter fat. He moved tuat the Native Trustee he written to playing that there be a reduction in rents. M$T. P. O’Neil, -seconding the motion f suggested that they have Mr .7. O’Brien, M.P., wait oil the Native Trustee. The motion, together with Mr O’Ncil’ii suggestion, was adopted. Tt was also decided to protest to the Minister of Agriculture and to ask the Dominion Council to approach the Government asking for a reduction, as a matter of urgency.
