FIGHT AT A PA
MAORI WOMEN’S ROW: ARGUMENT IN COURT. WANGANUI, March 7. ‘■J have seen a lew rows in my day, hut 1 have never seen anything like this one,” said a witness at the Wanganui Police Court to-day when giving evidence in a -Maori assault case. It wsa stated that a fight had (,ommcnced among Maori women at Ivauauyaroa Pa., and -Mare Karepo Was charged with having assaulted Koro Talien. Although much of the evidence was unintelligible it was evident that, there had been a royal row, and the Magistrate, Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., said that lie was surprised that tile elders had not exercised more control He wanted it to he understood that domestic squabbles were not a matter for (lie court.
During tlic hearing of the case the principal parties argued among themselves, and towards the finish the din became so loud that the magistrate was compelled to shout to restore order. The ease was dismissed.
