The situation is unchanged, both' sides holding their defence lines without fighting. The plenary session of the central executive of the Chinese Committee at Loyang issued a declaration urging the nntion to concentrate on definite oposition to the Japanese, and to fight to the last man, to prevent a repetition of the imposition of anything resembling the Japanese twenty-one demands. The commercial life of Shanghai is practically at a standstill, and no progress is making to end the deadlock and unless a speedy settlement is ed, .further hostilities on a wide scale are feared.
