GHASTLY CRIMES
GUILT ADMITTED AUSTRIAN WOMAN MURDERED. (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegru p h. —Copyrigb t.) VIENNA, March 7. Arrested at Linz, on suspicion of murdering a builder’s wife, Louisa Janks, described as the most horrible crime in Austrian history, Franz Leitli<roeb, aged 53, an ex-butcher, admitted his gui.t. He also confessed to murdering his grandmother m 1920, and five other women since. Two victims were found dead in their beds. Their deaths were attributed to misadventure. Leithgoeb says he strangled them. Later, he admitted killing two others in 1916, and 1920, setting fire to their bodies. The police recall the mysterious deaths of a number of other women, who were strangled, robbed of money and jewellery,, whose deaths they were endeavouring to trace to Leithgoeb, who served thirteen years’ sentences for i*t>bbery. In addition to slaying jus father and two servants, as establish-ed'last-week, he murdered an old farmer, his wife and sister-in-law at Varmdo. He had borrowed money from the farmer and therefore was suspected of murdering them in July, also another old man from whom he had borrowed. Von Sydow is intellectual, but led a wild life, and committed suicide dramatically at the end of a champagne and oyster dinner. He was presenting roses to his wife and guests when a detective arrived.
