WINDOW-SMASHER GAOLED, , IMAGINARY GRIEVANCE. f j AUCKLAND, March 7. ? j The man who stated last Thursday, at the Police Court, when he sought, the remission of arrears of a maintenance order, that, the only way he could, get work was by breaking a window, and going to gaol, lias broken another , window, so has got himseli work. Charles Alexander Smith, aged 42 labourer, pleaded guilty-at the Police Court to-day to a charge of mischief by wilfully damaging a plate-glass window - valued at £lB 10/-. Detective Sergeant Kelly said Smith, threw a glass beer mug through a shop window in Karangahape Road about-5, p.m. “This is the third time he has deliberately, broken windows in this same shop, which is owned by a : distant relative of his,” added Mr •Kelly. :' Jt lias got so bad now that the insurance office's will not have anything, to: do with this window and shop., Smith still says that when he is released he will do the same tiling again. He seems, to have some imaginary grievance.” ; - Smith told Mr Cutten of a grievance lie had against his relative, Detective Sergeant Kelly: That is quite wrong. Smith wants his relative to pay him £1 a week while he is out of work. “Will your-Worship give me a sentence, and then afterwards deport me to Australia ” asked accused. “There’s no work here, and 1 would like to get out of it.” Mr Cutten refused, and sentenced Smith to three months’ imprisonment “I think you will lie all the better For a little discipline.”.
