PLANE TO BE DISMANTLED. [United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, March* 4. The engine used by Flight Lieut. Stainforth in his world speed record flight of 407-£ miles per hour, last September, has been completely dismantled for scientific examination at the Derby works of the makers, the Rolls Royce company. The engine consists of 2450 parts, all of which are \being microscopically examined, and tested. Although apparently the 2560 horse power engine bears no trace of the strain involved in its record flight, when 3400 revolutions per minute were attained, a great mass of data was procured by a similar examination to which" engines used in winning two previous' Schneider contests were afterwads subjected.

OUTSTANDING ACES. AVIATION LEAGUE AWARDS. PARIS, March 4. The International League of Aviators selected Maryse Bastie as accomplishing the most outstanding feat during 1931. He holds the duration record of 2,275 minutes without refuelling, the light plane distance record of 1,795 miles (Paris to Nizlininovogorod) and the Balbo International champion recognition squadron flight to South America. Bert Hinkler (Australia) and Amy • Johnson- were selected as the British champions, for their Trans-Atlantic-Tokio flights; Peggy Salaman was awarded the medal of honour for her Cape fight; Eckner was declared the dirigible balloon champion; and Piccard the spherical balloon champion. The League selected Ki.ngsford Smith as the foremost Australian aviator.
