MAN FOR SENTENCE

FORGED BANK WITHDRAWAL RECEIPTS.

TIMARU, March 2. ! In the Timaru Magistrate’s Court to* day, before Mr C. R. Or r-Walker, S.M.j Leslie Alwyn Olson M’Kenzie appeared on (three charges of forging and uttering Post Office withdrawal receipts on July 10, July 20' and' August 1, 1931.

i ‘ Sergeant Hodgson said that M’Kenzie was a married man with onei 'child and had been separated from his wife for some time. In July he obtained his mother’s bank book and oh July 10 obtained l£B 15s, .July 20, £lo' 10s, and August 1, £lO. (Nicholas D. Mangos, accouutaiit at the .Post Office, Timaru, said that Mrs M’Kenzie made complaint on February ,17 last that she was unable to hnd her pass book and made application for a new one. An inspection oft the ledger card showed . that . withdrawals had been made. Mrs M’Kenzie made a further complaint that she had riot made these withdrawals. A total amount of £29 5s had been withdrawn without her authority. John Somerville, a clerk . yt the Money Order and Savings Bank, Timaru, whose initials were on the withdrawal receipts, produced the receipts which gave authority for payment of the amounts shown. j
