HOCKEY
PLAYERS SUSPENDED. TIMARU, March 1. Considerable interest has been aroused amongst hockey players in South Canterbury by the disqualification of F. Cowles and E. Hawkey, of the South End Club. In the annual tournament of the South Canterbury Hockey A»I sociation ’"•Cowles- was ordered off the field, and. at the end of the game Hawkey was also warned by the referee. The South Canterbury Hoc-key AssocinI tion then decided to disqualify Cow.qs • for life and Hawkey for t-o years. : Tho South End Club emphatically protested against the Association’s action and requested that the matter be re-opened. Tbs was done, but the Association refused to alter its fonnei ruling. The South End Club then brought the matter before the New Zealand Association when the two players w'ere given an opportunity to state theiy case. So far no reply has been received from the New Zealand Association, and those interested in the sport are keen to know the final decision of the controlling body.
