SUGGESTION BY MR SCULL IN FOR SHIPMENT OF GOLD RESERVE. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this ft .y at 10.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, March 2. Mr Seullin, Loader of the Federal Opp'Jfiition, suggests a shipment of Australian gold reserve, exceeding ten millions, should be made to London, and sold. The amount, which would be realised in Australian currency, would be seventeen millions, tile proceeds of which 1 could he held in London in liquid“form, and” would constitute n resene, ,i}s effective as if it were held here in gqjd, .a.iiij would earn interest to offset portion of the overseas obligations.
Australia could not afford, at the present time, to keep this gold lying idle.
